This book successfully pulls off the difficult trick of being both a serious scholarly text and an enormously engaging introduction to the history and architecture of Crusader castles for the lay reader. The book is an obvious labor of love, which helps to account for its great charm.5/5(5).

Crusader Castles is the published edition of his University Degree thesis for which he was awarded a First Class Honours. His style is concise and assertive. The book is a serious study with photos and diagrams of castle designs and the reasons why large stone castles were built at important locations in France and the Middle East/5(5).

Having resolved to read everything written by T. Lawrence, I inevitably picked up his college thesis, published posthumously under the title Crusader Castles. It's a very rare book, but happily a New Crusader castles book discount made the Folio Society edition a good option, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the customer service, shipping, and, of course, the edition itself.4/5.
